Here’s a rare and very special 2005 Gibson L-4 CES guitar in excellent condition. How special? This superb instrument was built under supervision, inspected and signed by the late masterbuilder James Hutchins who spent over 45 years working at Gibson.
As with the L-5, the L-4 has a solid carved sitka spruce top and an ornate Art Deco tailpiece, a wraparound tortoise pickguard and a pearl inlaid ebony bridge.
The L-4 CES has a 16″ body with florentine cutaway for better access to the upper frets. Back and sides are mahogany. The one-piece mahogany neck is single-bound with parallelogram inlays, and the top is finished in a beautiful warm sunburst.
The guitar is in great condition overall with only minor playwear. Frets are like new. Weight is 3100g. Includes original case, which is also in almost new condition.
Feels and plays wonderfully, with nice low action from top to bottom. The L-4CES has a great sound acoustically, but plugged in the ’57 Classic PAF Humbuckers come into their own, punchy and warm.
