This '69 Gibson J-50 plays and sounds amazing. I purchased this from a recording studio in Nashville. It records extremely well, especially with 421s on it. Even though this is a true vintage guitar, this is definitely more of a player's guitar than a collector's guitar. I describe the condition as Good because the thing plays and sounds better than it ever did new. The top was scarred by the studio owner and he did that to all his J-50 and J-49s. He claimed it helped the guitar release humidity and mellow the sound. It's a players preference to decide if you like it or not. Here is the real reason it's a player's guitar. This guitar has been modified, set up and maintained by Master Luthier, Joe Glaser, himself (not just his shop). The original tuners were upgraded to Grovers; the original bridge has been replaced by a modern bridge; a Martin Goldline piezo pickup was added under the saddle; a new pickguard was added; a new bone nut was cut and fitted and a strap button was added to the heel. Fret work has been done and the action and intonnation set by Joe. It plays like a dream. Unfortunately, a bridge pin was lost by me but I was going to order the mahogony pins from Stu Mac. I've lowered the price a bit to see if anyone might rather replace these with their choice. I doubt this case is the original match but it's definitely an original Gibson hard case that fits well. I've kept this with a humidifier in the case. There are finish distress marks and wood distress but no wood cracks. A bit more about it's place in history: Overview The 1969 Gibson J-50 represents a significant transitional year in Gibson's acoustic guitar history. This model year marked important changes in construction and specifications that make it particularly noteworthy for collectors and players alike. Transitional Design Elements Body Shape: 1969 was a pivotal year when Gibson transitioned from round shoulder to square shoulder construction Nut Width: Started with the traditional narrow 1⅝" nut width Construction: Features the classic dreadnought body style with spruce top and mahogany back and sides Finish: Natural finish was standard for the J-50 model Historical Significance The 1969 J-50 holds special importance as it represents the end of an era for Gibson acoustics. This was one of the last years before significant changes in Gibson's manufacturing processes and ownership transitions that would affect subsequent models. If you see this listing it's available. I'm not entertaining low offers. This one is special and has been recorded by many well known songwriters and some artists.
