I picked up this pristine 1978 P neck in Greenville, SC a few years back ~ in an attempt to collect pieces and build the replacement for my all-original, *case queen* 1975 P that I FOOLISHLY sold about 15 years ago! 🫣ðŸ˜
As I was told ~ back during this era you could buy a P-bass for retail, then order the matching Fretted Rosewood or Fretless Maple necks for $50 each... this was the factory neck, but the original owner purchased both of the optional necks and ended up leaving the Rosewood on the bass itself... so this Maple was removed with very little play on it at all! (Hence the remarkable condition...)
I paired it with an American Standard body and all period-matching hardware, to imitate my *Baby* that got away from me so long ago... ('78 Schaller tuners, newer but vintage covers)
It houses a Custom Shop pickup, and Kelling wiring harness with .47 cap on the tone control... SwitchCraft output... S.I.T. Power Flats round out the hardware, for a phenomenal vintage sound!
She weighs exactly 8.2lbs
