Boss OD-1 Over Drive from back in the day. It’s got a black label that says “Made in Japan,” a black screw, and a short dash, as you can see in the pictures. You should look at the pictures for the condition, as well. I’m calling it “good” because though there are chips and wear on the finish, it’s 40+ years old. And it works!

I bought this 10-15 years ago because I missed the one I had in the 1980s. I always wondered if this one had been modded, because two screws are missing from the back plate - you never need to take the back plate off to change the battery, with this classic Boss pedal enclosure design. But this OD-1 sounds like I remember the one from my youth sounding, so it has worked for me.

Now I’m old, not using pedals, and selling my too-large collection. This one doesn’t have a box or papers or anything but the pedal.

What is an OD-1 like? It’s a mid-focused overdrive that to my ear retains more high-end and cut than a Tube Screamer does. It works (for me) better than a TS as a boost, because you can dial more of the clipping grit out of the sound by turning down the Over Drive knob.

The OD-1 was built to use a Boss ACA adapter, which (I am told) provides an unregulated 12VDC supply rather than the regulated 9VDC supply more common now. I can tell you that this OD-1 worked and made sound with my generic Dunlop DC Brick 9V power supply, but the LED did not light up. I installed a 9V battery, and now the LED lights up. I’ll leave the battery installed when I ship this. Boss says when the battery can‘t light the LED any more, it’s time to change the battery.
