I refer to this 1972 Fender Telecaster Bass in tobacco sunburst finish (Custom Shop only) as Brown Butta, and it is a true gem for collectors and players alike. Featuring a solid slab ash body, a one-piece maple neck with skunk stripe, a comfortable "C" profile, and a 34" scale length.  I find it an interesting neck profile.  It measures out at 1 5/8” but it feels narrow like a jazz but with more girth,  and thickens up a bit as you move up the neck. The Seth Lover humbucker pickup delivers warm, punchy tone with plenty of old-school vibe.  I pick it up when I want to soak in the whiskey river with The Possum or Cody, but it equally loves some Clash.

This is a 51-year-old bass and has seen plenty of gigs.  As best I can tell, everything is original, except for the pickguard, which has two mismatched screws holding it down. The bench photo shows that the new pickguard has a slightly different tug-bar location, resulting in an extra set of holes under the pickguard.

Note:  Plenty of player wear and earned patina.  I usually won’t buy a bass with impressions on the back of the neck, and this one has plenty, but somehow it’s just part of the mojo I embraced.  I’m not sure if it’s the volume pot or how it came originally, but you get almost nothing out of the volume until you roll up past five.  I roll up the volume, tone about 3, and soak in the butta.  The Fende case is beat to hell, but it works for shipping with a box.  A little bit of shop effort and the case could be solid again.

Weight is 10.5lbs plus or minus on the scale.  For the period and slab body, this is how it was.

The YT link is to a blonde version, well described and demonstrated at Norman’s.  Even the guy in the demo describes it as “Butter”. ;-0
