JDM Pedals "The Hornet" Overdrive / Distortion | RAT Zendrive Modes

The JDM Hornet is a flexible Overdrive/Distortion with a 3-way switch to control the style of hard clippinbg. "FET" clipping is a high headroom clipping, more overdrive-like in quality, as was the early Zendrive. Switch to "Si" for silicon diode clipping for a medium headroom hard clip, like a grumbly RAT pedal, excellent for stacking. "Ge" mode shaves the signal into a full-on heavy distortion, wild and rippin'.

With surprising cleanup and stacking-friendly response, this circuit is known for amazing “cleanish” tones at low gain (John Scofield’s tone) or deep, heavy “chunk” distortion when cranked (80’s Anthrax distortion!). Three flavors of clipping and a modified filter control make this pedal simple and flexible at the same time.

The filter is also tuned to have a different curve than the original RAT, we tuned this gentler roll-off of sometimes harsh high-mid frequencies to not cut as quickly, making it more useful. The circuit also “tightens up” the bass frequencies, adding clarity without thinning the sound.
