Magnecord PT-6 mono transport and stereo electronics reel to reel tape deck. AS IS!

We are one of the very few facilities in the Pacific NorthWest that buys, sells and restores reel to reel tape decks. We have over 35 years experience working on these units, and have the tools and test equipment to properly align and bring these decks to life.
We use MRL calibration tapes, and are dealers for ATR tape. We work on everything from mono tube machines to 2" 24 track studio decks. We are reeltoreeltech dot com!

This is the Magnecord PT-6 full track mono reel to reel transport, along with a rare stereo electronics section. We had a client send us a bunch of early reel to reel decks to be serviced, and we advised against the repair of this one, as it was going to be expensive.

The transport and electronics section were purchased separately by our client, and do not match, with the deck being full track mono, and the electronics being stereo. Here's what we found:

Transport:

-the transport does power up, and generally functions

-it is very noisy, due to bearing noise and the rubber being worn within the deck.

These PT-6 transports are way overbuilt, and weigh a ton. They were designed originally for heavy duty use, and can be rebuilt. We'd recommend that the rubber idlers and pinch rollers be sent to Terry's Rubber Rollers in Michigan for rebuilding.

Electronics:

Sadly, the seller to our client here on Reverb left the electronics loose in the case, and the front panel got significantly bent in transit as shown. The left VU meter broke off its mounts, but it looks like a clean break, and it can be put back together with some superglue or epoxy from what we can see.

The electronics does power up, the tubes glow, but we got no audio through it. So, we suspect that there's a B+ problem in the power supply, although we'd assume the power transformer is fine. We did pull the chassis, and saw that everything looked original, all of the caps are stock, and it doesn't look like any work has been done to it.

With some time, money, and patience, this could end up being a really nice example of a 70+ year old deck. We have the money and patience, but just don't have the time to put the 10-20 hours into this deck unfortunately.
Note that there may be other hidden problems in the deck, but we've described it to the best of our ability. Sold completely as is simply due to the age of the deck.

We also have another Magnecord currently listed here on Reverb, the M30. IF you want to buy both decks, we'll knock $100 off the final price, and would then recommend that everything be boxed and strapped to a pallet, and shipped via truck. Shipping will generally run $350 via truck for everything.

We know how to pack these decks, and will use lots of bubble wrap and styro sheeting to protect the deck in transit. Shipping in the West will be somewhat less than quoted, and we'll refund any excess once the deck has been sent out.

IMPORTANT: All of our items are located in Vancouver Canada, and will need to be customs cleared into the US. Our listed price includes all tariffs and customs broker charges (totalling just over 20%), however it is now mandatory to include an EIN (business number) or your SSN on the customs paperwork. No exceptions. This changed as of Aug 29, 2025 we didn't need it prior to the new regulations. Just google this for verification, every customs broker website has this new information on it now:

CBP requires documentation that includes shipment details, such as the identification of the ultimate consignee. An ultimate consignee is a person, party, or designee in the United States who will receive the shipment. The ultimate consignee is usually the buyer of the goods. CBP uses either a EIN or SSN, issued by the IRS, to identify the ultimate consignee:

Buyers in Canada see this as a domestic shipment, with no tax or duty.

• Employer Identification Number (EIN): Issued to business entities
• Social Security Number (SSN): Issued to individuals

Without an IRS number, CBP cannot identify the ultimate consignee and will not allow the shipment into the US.
