The Shop’s Take
Here is a beautiful mid-1960s Ludwig Club Date Outfit in the classic 8x12, 14x14, and 14x20 configuration, finished in Oyster Black Pearl. The three Keystone badge serial numbers are unusually close together at 322524, 322557, and 322596, and the kit retains a compelling mix of nickel and chrome hardware consistent with Ludwig’s transitional production period. The wrap presents especially well, with strong Oyster Black Pearl character throughout and a slightly warmer tone on the bass drum. This is a very appealing player-grade vintage Ludwig kit with the compact sizes, look, and feel that make original Club Dates so desirable.

Full Description
This Ludwig Club Date Outfit features an 8x12 rack tom, 14x14 floor tom, and 14x20 bass drum in Oyster Black Pearl.

The three Keystone badge serial numbers are:

  • 8x12 rack tom: 322524
  • 14x14 floor tom: 322557
  • 14x20 bass drum: 322596

The close serial-number range is noteworthy and places the drums very near one another in Ludwig’s production sequence. We are not representing that alone as proof that the drums were originally sold together, but it is an encouraging and interesting detail for a vintage Ludwig set of this era.
The Oyster Black Pearl wrap is the visual centerpiece of the kit. The toms retain strong contrast and depth in the pattern, while the bass drum has developed a slightly warmer, browner cast by comparison. The variation is visible in the photos and is consistent with the kind of aging often seen across vintage wrapped drums.
The hardware is another interesting part of the kit. Much of it is nickel-plated and still presents with an attractive shine, with some chrome components also present. The combination fits the transitional period in which Ludwig was moving from nickel toward broader use of chrome hardware.
White baseball bat mufflers are present.
The bass drum hoops have been repainted black. Several small sections of the bass drum hoop inlay are missing. One original bass drum T-rod and claw has been replaced with a period-correct chrome example.
New rubber feet have been installed on the floor tom legs.
This is a vintage kit that has been preserved with usability in mind rather than presented as an untouched museum piece. The drums show the age and small component changes described above while retaining the visual character and compact configuration that make 1960s Club Date kits so appealing.

Condition - Very Good vintage condition.
The wrap, hardware, hoops, and shells show age-appropriate wear throughout. The bass drum wrap is slightly warmer in color than the toms, and the bass drum hoops show the repaint and missing inlay sections noted above.
