1969 Martin D-28
This 1969 D-28 comes from the tail end of an era — the last year Brazilian rosewood appeared in Martin's catalog dreadnoughts — and it has spent the decades since doing exactly what a D-28 is built for. It's been played hard, and it wears every year of it: finish checking across the top, strum wear through the soundboard, worn spots on the neck and headstock. This is a working instrument with a real life behind it, not a case queen.
Condition: Play wear throughout. Slight neck bow; expect to budget for a neck reset at some point down the road. The bottom strap pin is missing. Ships in its original hardshell case (handle is broken), with a capo and picks included.
Provenance: From the personal collection of Tom Bedell, founder of Bedell Guitars.
"The Martin D-28 is very sentimental. I had always wanted a Martin dreadnought. But for no good reason, I never pulled the trigger. Then in 2003 I sold a majority of Pure Fishing, my fishing tackle company. I visited my daughter who asked me, 'How are you going to celebrate?' And spontaneously I responded that I want to buy a Martin D-28. We went shopping and found a D-28 crafted in 1969 – the last year Martin used Brazilian in their catalog D-28. This guitar has been an inspiration for my Bedell Guitars."
Serial #251217. Crafted in Nazareth, PA, 1969.
