This is an all original 1930s Martin Style O Soprano Mahogany Uke. It has the original bar frets, friction tuners and decal label on the headstock. It has an ebony nut and saddle, rosewood fingerboard, and solid mahogany top, back and sides.
There are 3 small dots on fingerboard on 5, 7 and 10. This instrument had one small seam separation on the back (repaired) and is structurally very sound.
From "The Martin Ukulele: The Little Instrument That Helped Create a Guitar Giant' I found this research about the time frame:
- After 1916 – Inside stamp parallel to the back brace, no serial number.
- 1920-21 – Marker at the 10th fret instead of 9th.
- 1920-21 – Ebony nut and saddle
- 1926 – Added rosewood binding on the back
- 1927 – Grover Tuners
This uke has the stamp inside parallel to the back brace, 10th fret marker, and ebony nut and saddle. there is no binding anywhere on this instrument. I addition, I was informed that Martin started using the decals on the headstock in 1932 and stopped using bar frets in 1934 which puts this at between 1932-34.
It's in excellent shape and plays perfectly. Comes with a new modern, hard shell case.
