Here is a Ibanez, Mansfield branded F400 Dreadnought 12 string acoustic from the famed Japanese 'lawsuit' era (mid 1970s). These are Ibanez buileds branded as Mansfield for the Canadian market. The Mansfield name is rare and usually found on Les Paul copies of the era. The quality is what you would expect from 1970s Ibanez luthiers who were pumping out some of the world's finest guitars at the time. Spruce top, Brazilian Rosewood fretboard and bridge, bone nut. It has some wear and a few age scratches but nothing of note. The one issue is that the bridge has a repaired crack from long ago but is glued and stable. The action is medium. Tuners and frets are good. Holds tune well. It could use new strings and a setup. It is missing two ferulles. All original. It sounds lovely - bright and airy with plenty of projection.

Mansfield was a Canadian musical instrument distributor (you will note that most owners are in Canada).

Their guitars are OEM made from different musical instrument manufacturers. Recently purchased guitars have no special interest, but in the 1970’s , they were built by Hoshino Gakki (Japan), the Ibanez makers.

If you have a 1970’s guitar, chances are that it’s an Ibanez with a Mansfield logo on it. Mansfield was a brand name distributed by Peate Musical Supplies for the Canadian market. Originally re-branded Ibanez models, some time between 1975 and 1982, production switched to Samick and the lineup became re-branded Hondo models. The Ibanez vintage guitars are highly coveted.
