Ludwig #401 - 14x5" Super Ludwig Brass Snare Drum, Super Rare, Keystone Badge Buffed Out 1957-1958

This 14×5″ Super Ludwig brass snare comes from the very earliest stages in the evolution of the now legendary Ludwig Supraphonic snare drum. This drum has it all. It's super rare, in amazing condition and most importantly sounds beautiful.

See the Super Ludwig snare drum on the cover of the 1960 Ludwig catalog.

The brass lacquered finish is in excellent condition. Brass hoops. Nothing broken or missing. The printing has been polished off of the keystone badge There's a slight bend in the metal disc that supports the felt pad of the internal muffler. My guess is someone bent it to get better contact with the head. If it's an issue it would be an easy fix or replacement. No other issues.

The photos tell all.

This snare delivers a warm, crisp, and articulate tone with excellent sensitivity in all dynamic ranges.
