We have photographed this very intentionally under the glare of strong lighting to make it show up. It can be pretty easy to miss in person, and is only about 1/8" in circumference.

 

The Xotic XSC Series is for the player who wants a more vintage take on the Classic S-Style guitar, but with some modern improvements. Features include an SSS pickup configuration with a choice between hand-wound Raw Vintage RV-50 or RV-60 Pickups, vintage locking tuners, Jescar frets, and an aged lacquer finish. Lots of color options available!

What Does Cam Think

This XSC-1 has to be the Rolls Royce of S-Style instruments. It’s finished in a 2-tone vintage burst. The tight grain of the alder really shines underneath the lightly aged nitro finish. A one piece roasted flame maple neck and fingerboard offer stability as well as knock-out looks. This isn’t your grandad’s S-Style. Other features include Jescar 55090 frets, RV-50 pickups, and a comfortable 9.5” radius. 

The Xotic XSC-1 is a refined take on a ‘50s era S-Style instrument. The tonality is a little more reserved than say, a ‘60s era guitar, but this thing can still boogie. The neck position RV-50 sounds as complex as a ‘50s era hollow-body neck pickup; woody and round. You still get your bell-like single-coil tones, but just a little smoother overall. The middle and bridge pickup offer that unmistakable spank and twang. With some gain, you’ll be sounding like Eric Johnson in no time! Tones are thick and viscous with a little drive, but roll back the volume, and you’ll clean up nicely. The 50’s never sounded so good!

How Does It Play

The neck is a modern C profile, measuring about 0.84” at the first fret and 0.92” at the 12th. The fret ends are beautifully rounded with a mirror finish. The string action measures only 4/64” at the 12th fret on both the low E and the high E. Bends are easy and fretting is a breeze.
