Very Rare 1988 Surf Green Fender American Stratocaster Plus

If you're reading this, you already know what you're looking at. Surf Green—alongside Graffiti Yellow—is one of the most sought-after and collectible colorways in the Strat Plus lineup. This example is even more desirable thanks to its E4 serial number and maple neck.

This guitar sounds incredible and plays like butter. There’s truly nothing like a well-broken-in USA Fender Strat. It was recently fully serviced and set up by Rick at Mainline Music in Ardmore, PA. He re-secured the pickups, as the mounting screws had loosened slightly over the decades—now solid and properly aligned. Furthermore, he replaced a few old screws, and swapped out the white pickup switch cap, which no longer stayed in place (the original cap is included in the case along with all original parts in a plastic bag). It’s set-up with a brand new set of strings and is intonated and ready to rock. Condition is actually better than when I acquired it, with no additional wear added during my ownership.

As you can see in the photos, there are dings and scuffs typical of a guitar this age. She has been played and loved and she’s no spring chicken lol! Coming up on 40 years soon! So definitely in prime vintage territory at this point.

Sperzel locking tuners, Wilkinson roller nut, Lace Sensor pickups—the real deal. These were top-tier features in the late '80s, and they’ve stood the test of time. Versatile, stable, and unmistakably Strat.

The rectangular hard case appears to be original and correct for the era. It’s fully functional, though aligning all three latches can take a bit of finesse.

The tremolo arm is included and may be original, though I can’t confirm with certainty.

This is a rare opportunity to own a highly collectible piece of Fender history as only a handful of 1988 Surf Green Strat Plus models come up for sale each year. Increasingly hard to find in original condition, especially with a maple neck and an E4 Serial Number.
