The DW reissue is beautiful, but be prepared to pay at least $3000 for one if it’s available?

A very attractive BDP Slingerland KRUPA Model, this 40s RK has the desirable

3-point strainer Extended Bridges with the 6-screws design, with some corrosion along with modern Snare Wires. 

This snare has a Solid “BDPearl” wrap Finish
. APPROXIMATELY: 1941-43.

There are no issues associated with playing and age.


Both Reinforcing Rings are nice and tightly glued to the Solid 1-ply Maple Shell.

This finish is very clear & vivid. The seam is held up tightly Just like it left the Chicago factory many years ago.

ORIGINAL- Nickel plated small beaver/tail lugs and hardware Installed.



 As collectors, we refer to this snare in Slingerland’s Catalog as the COOL

HOLLYWOOD ACE MODEL”.  
The 40s Slingerland’s Catalog describes this snare as the New “Radio King“ Snare Model.

This snare has the 7”x14” Solid 1-Ply Maple Shell with the renown, original

Krupa -“3-point” strainer design.
No extra holes. Also, if desired you can install the Original Extended Snare wires, to accommodate the RK snare set-up


History: The first “Krupa” model Radio King cataloged, technically had the 3-point strainer,
8-Streamlined lugs and was 
6.5 x14“. The later “Hollywood Ace Model” was 7x14” equipped with 
16-small beaver-tail lugs.  
 Slingerland also added a “Buddy Rich,” Center lug model with 
8-center lugs, simple butt plate. And later a 16-Lug model, simple butt plate to their Catalog.

This RK Snare Drum is Sporting the original Art Deco 40s Aluminum ”Ornate, Cloud Badge.

A Nice Brass installed grommet.



In addition, this R.K.snare is in out of the box, ready play condition. All original with two “New” Remo plastic drum heads. A very nice thick solid Maple shell & heads go on fine.

The Vintage BDP finish has that Old School Antique Finish vibe that “Slingerland” made popular along with their WMP finishes. 

 Also, the inside shell finish has the beautiful Antique Wood Grain pattern. And, this finish has stayed very vibrant showing great coloration & condition. There are VERY MINOR imperfections from age & usage.
The lap joint & Seam is very tight and solid.

Overall, the hardware is ALL original.


These finishes are very hard to find without issues in such decent condition.

Again -The shell construction is the desirable, 
1-Ply, Solid Maple Shell with Solid Maple reinforcing hoops. A very thick Solid Maple Shell, that is beautiful inside-and out!

Many Radio Kings were made with the 3-Ply shell.

 However, most players & collectors prefer the 1-ply solid maple shell.

This drum is equipped with Nickel Over, full flanged Nickel Over Brassl, Stick Chopper rims.


These rims are KRUPA’ S old school double flanged variety.

All HARDWARE IS NICKEL PLATED AND LOOKS ANTIQUE & BEAUTIFUL!

A very nice “in round” solid Maple shell, as heads go on decently.

NOTE: sometime in this snare drums life, someone put a light stain coat and clear lacquer on the inside Solid Maple Shell.

The 16- lug stream-lined beaver tail lugs are Crafted in Art Deco design and fashion. All lugs are in great, working condition.

Again, the 3-point RK-Slingy Strainer works and functions beautifully with attached throw Handle.



The dual Purple factory muffler functions flawlessly.
 Aftermarket 20 strand snare wires are installed.



This Drum has that great Radio King sound, wonderful dynamic response, with great warm sensitivity & tonality, cutting through all band instruments.
