1984 Jackson RR1 Randy Rhoads Custom from the legendary San Dimas Custom Shop Mike Shannon era long before Fender outbid Megadeth's Dave Mustaine to buy the company. It is finished in iconic black with gold Kahler tremolo and hardware. Kahler was the original hardware provider to Charvel and Jackson in their first San Dimas years, which is why you see brass hardware on the earliest models, like this example with a very low serial number. This is the more expensive RR1 Custom with the iconic mother-of-pearl shark fin inlays for which Jackson is famous. The cheaper Student models received dot inlays on rosewood fretboards and no Kahler. The inlays shine like new on this guitar and have not yellowed. The binding has yellowed with age and displays paint bleed along the base of the binding. These early RR1 Customs featured Gibson-style fret binding with fret nibs, which are incredibly all still present. The guitar appears to be a case queen that was barely played, as there is no indentation wear on the frets whatsoever. It is incredible to find a model with original, unworn frets. The guitar also comes with its original fitted hard case, which is also in very good condition and rarely found still present with these early examples. At 41 years of age, this is an incredible survivor. The history of the guitar is not known, other than it once belonged to a professional artist and spent years stored in its case in a London recording studio. The hardware and electrics are all original. The pickups are the original Jackson Custom hand-wound humbuckers. There are of course some marks and signs of aging to the hardware, but this is the cleanest RR1 Custom I have ever seen from the early San Dimas years. I do not know any paintwork or repair history. I do not see any "smile" lines or anything else indicating any prior neck repair. The parts are all original with uniform aging and patina. The guitar appears to have always been a black guitar. The pictures accurately portray the condition of the guitar. It is extremely rare for early Randy Rhoads Custom models to come up for sale. One 1983 model has already sold for over $100,000. This is priced at around what a new Gibson Murphy Lab Custom Les Paul is selling for at the Gibson Garage in London. The guitar will look incredible on display in any collection, or you will turn every head in the stadium if you are ballsy enough to play it on stage.
