Vintage Circa 1936 Epiphone Electar Aluminum Top Lap Steel Guitar w/ Original Case!

Up for sale is this vintage circa 1936 Epiphone Electar lap steel guitar. This is a very cool, very rare model which was topped with polished aluminum giving it a look that's still futuristic nearly a hundred years after it was built...

This instrument is all original with the exception of one of the headstock logo badge nails. Cosmetically, the instrument shows wear from many years of use and this wear includes a ton of cool pick wear on the top and some various dings and scuffs. Overall, you can tell that it was lovingly used and used a lot over the years.

Our tech just opened this one up to spray out the electronics. The original horseshoe pickup works and sounds great. The volume and tone control work as they should, but with these pieces from the early days of electric instruments, the tone is basically all or nothing with very little taper.

The original hardshell case is included. The case has definitely seen better days with some loose and soft seams, but it is largely intact and present and that's pretty cool on its own. The handle is still there and the latches close and mostly hold, although they need a little help to open and close.

Overall, a very cool piece of functional history from the early days of hip, electric instruments...
