Circa 1914-1920 Chris Knutsen "convertible" Hawaiian style steel guitar. Knutsen was the designer of the hollow necked Hawaiian guitars and they were produced before Weissenborns. The guitar has a bracket connecting the neck to the body slotted with a wingnut on one end. On some Kuntsens this was done to allow the player to adjust the neck angle however it is unclear if on this particular guitar the bracket was meant to facilitate an adjustable neck angel. Metal "nut riser" can bereaved to lower the action from a "lap steel" height to regular "Spanish" style playing height. Spruce top with koa back/sides. Mahogany neck, fretboard and bridge. Rope patterned body binding and rosette. Tuners appear original. One repaired back crack. Guitar is structurally sound and in good playing order. Non-original chipboard case.
