Solidbody Electric Guitar with Alder Body, Maple Neck, Rosewood Fingerboard, and 3 Single-coil Pickups - Super Aged Faded Sonic Blue

Fender's Golden-age Strat Style Paired with Modern Performance, Such a Work of Art !

Providing a potent blend of vintage and modern specs, the Fender Custom Shop 1959 Stratocaster Journeyman Relic harkens back to the historic year when Fender first equipped the Strat with a rosewood fingerboard. As such, this guitar features a deep, dark AAA flat-lam rosewood fingerboard atop its 1959 D-profile maple neck, along with a contemporary 9.5-inch fingerboard radius and narrow-tall frets to better suit bend-heavy playing styles. Next, the 2-piece select alder body sports a supercharged trio of Custom Shop hand-wound Fat ’50s pickups — a hotter, fuller sonic spin on the bell-like chime and rounded-over warmth of the Strat’s golden-age heyday. In the hardware department, you get all the usual Stratocaster suspects, including a Custom Shop vintage synchronized tremolo and vintage-style slot-in tuners to unlock surfy sway and expressive pitch-bending panache. And like most Fender Custom Shop instruments that Capital City Guitars are hand selected and meticulously ordered, the Fender Custom Shop 1959 Stratocaster Journeyman Relic wears a perfectly aged-in coat of nitrocellulose lacquer that will only continue to gracefully age and develop the more you play.

Custom Shop Fat ’50s pickups

This Fender Custom Shop 1959 Stratocaster Journeyman Relic can pull double duty as a rhythm machine and a lead monster. Three Fat ’50s pickups from the Fender Custom Shop deliver a beefy vintage-style tone with enhanced bass response and balanced midrange that’s never harsh. These pickups look and sound period correct with staggered hand-beveled alnico magnets and Formvar magnet wire for refined harmonic response to dynamics. The middle pickup is reverse wound, a welcome modern touch that cuts pickup hum when playing in position 2 or 4. Fat ’50s are often called workhorse pickups that are balanced but never flat or bland. With three of them and a 5-way pickup selector, there are endless tones to explore. Plus, these pickups were built with period-correct cloth wire and fiber bobbins, proof of Fender’s immaculate attention to detail.

Historically accurate assembly

This instrument’s assembly starts with a quartersawn maple neck, cut to blend the tonal and structural stability of a rift-sawn neck while reducing ray fleck. Light in weight, maple is physically resilient. It’s sturdy in hand and highly adaptable to climate shifts, reducing maintenance and optimized for those on the road. An era-honoring 1959 “D” neck profile blends speed with comfort, allowing versatility for different play styles with plenty of momentum up, down, and across the strings.

A brand-new, broken-in classic

There’s a lot to be said about Fender’s intensive relicing process. And for a guitar like this, the relic’d finish gives your axe the travel-worn, broken-in feel you’ve always wanted. The master luthiers in the Fender Custom Shop expertly aged this guitar’s flash coat finish to accurately simulate decades of regular use onstage and in the studio. When you take the Fender Custom Shop 1959 Stratocaster Journeyman Relic out of its case for the first time, you’ll feel right at home — almost as if you were the original owner more than six decades ago.
