Handcrafted Strumstick Backpacker Dulcimer. Brand new 2026.

Just finished this one and excited to show it off to you. It turned out great! I really like the way it looks and sounds.

I closed my shop in GATLINBURG Tennessee due to Covid and am now selling exclusively online.This gives me more time for building which is what I love to do.

In my shop this instrument sells for up to $450 and more But i am able to sell it for much less online.

I have handcrafted hundreds of instruments over my 40 year career and this Backpacker is my most popular and best selling instrument.

This instrument is indeed a rare find with a unique combination of materials that create an exceptional sound. It is not only a joy to play but also a stunning piece of art that you will be proud to own!

3 piece handcarved walnut and poplar neck.
5 piece handcarved walnut and poplar head. Stunning variegated sycamore fretboard.

This Backpacker has 4 strings and plays the same as a lap dulcimer but is strung up opposite so can be hung around the neck.

I have sold this instrument to Chad Pennington (NFL Fame) and musician Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull) among others.
