Framus Star Bass

Up for sale is a vintage Framus Star Bass, in honestly, some of the best condition I’ve personally come across for one of these. Lightweight, resonant, and full of unmistakable vintage hollow-body character, this bass has an incredibly warm, acoustic-like tone that records beautifully and immediately stands out in both studio and live settings.

The original pickups sound fantastic — rich, colorful, woody, and full of personality. Each pickup has its own distinct voice, offering everything from deep, pillowy low end to articulate hollow-body growl. Strung with white La Bella nylon tape wounds, this bass delivers the classic thumpy vintage tone associated with early European hollow-body basses.

These Framus basses have become increasingly collectible over the years, and for good reason. They have a unique feel and sonic character that sit somewhere between an upright bass, an early violin bass, and a traditional hollow-body electric. An inspiring instrument for recording, jazz, indie, folk, ambient, psychedelic, or experimental music.

Condition

Very good vintage condition overall with some cosmetic dings, scratches, and finish wear consistent with age. The pickups sound excellent, though there is some light natural electrical hum/buzz typical of vintage electronics and wiring of this era. A small piece of cardboard has been placed in the pickup gap area to help prevent buzzing.

The string cradles do not perfectly hold the string ends, though this does not affect functionality or playability. Minor fret wear is present, with a couple of slight buzz spots on the G string in certain areas, but overall the bass plays well and remains an excellent vintage player and collector's piece.
