This isn't a real 540PII. It's a partscaster, with a neck from an RG565 and a body made by Mai Guitar in the USA.

I had this RG565 neck which was one of the very best Ibanez necks I've ever played. They never made a maple necked 540PII (for shame) and all the other partscasters people were building with non reversed headstocks looked rubbish. So I had Chris at Mai Guitar build this body for this neck and we've been together for more than 15 years at this point, I think. Selling purely because it doesn't get played much these days; my preferences have always been 7 strings.

The refinish job I did on the headstock could be better and has lifted around the 6th string. It looks fine from a few metres away, but up close is less whelming. The wear and patina on the fingerboard, neck and neck plate is all genuine. The body finish is approximation of Laser Blue. It's not perfect, but it works. The finish is incredibly thin (to help with the resonance) but as a result has a few marks and imperfections as shown in the photos. There is no tremolo cavity cover and it has never been drilled for one as I always leave them off. The electronics cavity cover made by Chris is functional but not pretty; the cavity itself I have shielded with copper tape.

The guitar absolutely screams; the neck is super fast and the action slinky low as only the early 90s Ibanez can manage. Cosmetically a bit spotty, but this guitar sounds so good and is such a joy to play it's never really bothered me.
