This power amp/mixer/microphone preamp was refurbished for use as a prop in a recent movie “Marty Supreme,” shot here in New York City. It lights up when you turn it on and the tubes glow. All original components (including the original lovely death cap). Used as a prop in a Timothee Chalamet film
This is a Challenger CH30 tube public address (PA) amplifier, made by the Challenger Amplifier Company in the mid-20th century (likely late 1940s–1950s).
Some details from your photo:
- Model: CH30
- Power rating: 30 watts
- Controls: Individual volume knobs for multiple inputs, a master tone control (“Mellow” → “Brilliant”), and power switch.
- Tubes: These typically used a set of 6L6 or 6V6 output tubes (depending on revision) along with preamp/driver tubes.
- Intended use: Originally designed for school auditoriums, churches, factories, and paging systems.
These high gain preamps often go for high dollars fully restored. I have two of them and the other one is matching ($200 and it’s yours to have a matching pair), but it has not been repainted like this one. This one has a fresh coat of hammertone paint on the top and has been polished to a nice shine. It has new vintage style bakalit—looking knobs on the front as well. Modern XLR connectivity added. Lastly, the unit has been properly grounded with a modern 3 prong cable. Sold as is. No returns thanks.
Thanks for looking and have a great day.
