Saul Koll Duo Glide - Roundup Orange

If you asked Saul Koll to build you a custom Koll Duo Glide with a Gretsch vibe & one of the most incredible unique big leaf maple tops this would be it.  As you can see in the photos, the top has a beautiful, quilted figure to it as well as stunning maple grain patterns that run horizontally through it.

It has a chambered 3-piece mahogany body with a subtle burst.  The stunning big leaf maple top has 5-layer binding & a bound “F-hole”.

The neck is solid mahogany with a 3-layer binding to the ebony fretboard & a hand cut unbleached bone nut.  Inlays are the classic Gretsch “bump” style. The set neck has a 24.625” scale & a medium C shape that is super comfortable in your hand. The 3-layer bound headstock features a Macassar ebony veneer with the hand-cut Koll pearloid inlay.  Tuners are the very classy Waverly tuners with the butterbean knobs.  The bridge is a Bigsby B-5 with a smooth floaty feel.

Pickups are TV-Jones Classic Filtertrons which sound amazing in this guitar.

When I asked Saul about the “Crow” trussrod cover this was his reply “I used to have an old New Hermes engraving machine. I’d search Ebay for unusual fonts & patterns. I found this truck and used it on the truss rod covers for a while. Another fun one was a boxer. There’s a few out there”.

The guitar was last set-up by Saul Koll & the playability is dialled in with a nice low action.

Guitar weighs 3.6kgs (7.94lbs).

All in all, this is a fantastic guitar with a host of unique & custom features that set it apart & are not present on any of Saul’s recent builds.  If you’re looking at this then you probably already know Saul is master craftsman & with a keen eye for detail & artistry.
