The Feral Hog is a trace by PedalPCB of the ThorpyFX Warthog circuit, complete with a Burr Brown OPA604 IC, premium Wima film caps and Audio Nichicon electrolytics just as the original. This guy also uses a pair of Tantalum caps where it counts.
This circuit seems to be a total sleeper, although I cannot figure out why. An absolute desert island distortion, the Feral Hog runs the gamut of gain whether it’s clean boost, sparkly overdrive, a hefty/chunky distortion with some major cajones touching on fuzz territory at extreme settings. Imagine the ultimate Rat pedal, dumping its drawbacks and expanding upon and perfecting its capabilities. All controls work very well with one another, with the Calibre knob really standing out. Get the pedal dialed in, the Gain where you want it and perfect the saturation and feel with Calibre knob. If you’re looking for a workhorse of a drive/distortion pedal, this is it, in spades.
Controls are from left to right starting at top: Volume, Gain and on bottom: Tone and Calibre.
