Here we have a very fine 1954 Epiphone Zephyr Regent Deluxe. This guitar is quite rare in the respect that it has 2 Volume and tone controls opposed to 1 set like most of this model has. I guess things like this happened with the different variations offered by Epiphone over a somewhat short span of this particular model guitar making.
This guitar was purchased 35 years ago here in Detroit at a Michigan Guitar Show swap meet held back in the day at the Michigan State Fairgrounds by a highly respected local guitarist who has been a great friend and customer of Gordy's Music for even longer than that. He loves this guitar but just every now and then thins his well stocked herd of guitars and amplifiers.
Cosmetically very clean looking for being 71 years old. My client took care of the binding issues it had as seen in the pictures. The guitar plays quite well as you can see in the video, has flat wound strings, and a nice action up until you get close to the octave-12th fret where it gradually gets higher. Like most of these old archtops, this one could use a neck reset to get the action even all the way up. The only other issue is the tone control for the bridge pickup is not working. We tried to clean it but that did not work. The frets are in great shape with light wear and some have light pitting in first 5-6 frets.
The original pickguard and back of the neck heel plate crumbled. The heel plate was replaced and both pieces of shrunken material along with the pickguard bracket that mounts it will come with guitar.
The Zephyr DeLuxe Regent was built from 1948 to 1956 to go toe-to-toe with Gibson's L5 and was considered one of the preeminent archtop guitar designs. Second only to their massive, 3-pickup 'Emporer', the Zephyr DeLuxe Regent was Epiphone's top-of-the-line model.
The Zephyr DeLuxe Regent featured a flamed maple body (in sunburst or natural) and flamed laminated maple top, a mahogany neck, two "New York" style single coil pickups, an exclusive offset "Frequensator" tailpiece, bakelite Epiphone 'carousel' knobs, pearloid tuners embossed with the company's 'slash C' logo, a truss rod adjustable at the peg head (first introduced only a few years earlier) and mother-of-pearl inlays for the Epiphone script logo and elaborate 'tree-of-life' floral design on the headstock and Epiphone exclusive 'cloud' inlays on the fretboard. It measured 17 3/8 across, 3 3/8" deep and had a neck scale of 25.5".
Comes with the original fully functional dark blue alligator Lifton case. Not a smoker so no odors.
NOTE:
The video was shot by our shipping-listing overall manager Brad Linden who plays all over town with tons of reading pit shows-plays-gigs etc. According to him,,, "It plays, it does the job!"

Visit out website to see the long list of celebrity musicians and groups we have serviced over the past 40 years.
Gordy's Music has become a Detroit institution! Our shop was used as a filming location for the recent "Miracle in Motor City" Christmas movie on Lifetime (featuring Smoky Robinson). We've supplied gear for movies including "Bill & Ted Face The Music" with Keanu Reeves. We've got decades of celebrity customers, including recent visits from Beck, Eric Johnson, and we just sold Billy Joel's bassist an SG he is in love with. Just last month 2-9-2024, Andre 3000 and his group stopped in to browse as they were playing Masonic Temple that night and right after that 2-12-2024 we sold an old oil can Morley Wah Vibrato pedal to Credence Clearwater Revival's thee John Fogerty!
We are having and have had a lot of fun here at Gordy's Music! I was just remembering about 35 years ago a tour bus pulled up to our little shop, and who rolls right in and hangs out for an hour? Lenny Kravitz and his entire group, right about the same time I was selling guitars and chauffeuring around Dee Dee Ramone, who had an apartment a block down from my house.
