NOTE: Pictured is a -10dB variant but this listing is for a -20dB PAD.
The ideal solution when your microphone and/or preamp does not have a PAD switch and your microphone has a high output. Perfect for use with certain popular drum microphones such as the Shure Beta52 and Beyer-Dynamic M201, which have a very high output level and no built-in PAD switch.
A great example of when an in-line PAD is useful is when using a high-output microphone with a Neve 1073 (or clone) preamp. Even when the level is OK with the gain all the way down, these types of preamps have a circuitry that sounds best when at least some gain is added. a PAD brings the microphone’s output level to a level where you are able to take advantage of the sonic benefits of your preamp. Another example is a live sound mixer, such as the popular Mackie ProFX line. The mic preamps on these boards do not have a PAD. A Beta52A straight into these boards will overload the preamp even with the gain all the way down, when playing loud rock. An in-line PAD will offer just the right amount of headroom to dial in the gain perfectly.
Another benefit of my PADs is the fact that it’s constructed with male and female XLR connector and approximately 3” of cable between them. This configuration is much more practical than a barrel type in-line PAD, which would stick out of either the end of a microphone or on the input of the preamp with the risk of being snapped off and damaging your equipment.
My PADs are 100% transparent. They will not affect the signal in any way other than dropping the level 10 or 20dB. Not recommended for line level signals. Constructed using Neutrik XX Gold connectors and Mogami 2549 wire.
Total length: approximately 9”.
