Ovation Adamas 1898 12-String Acoustic/Electric Guitar, Case

A beautiful vintage Adamas 1898 12-String, made in New Hartford , CT, that has done some traveling, evidenced by the scuffs and dings on the Ovation factory hard case.

The guitar looks way better than the case, although it has a few small cosmetic flaws. First, the fancy decorative wood on the biggest sound hole has cracked and separated upward for 3 or 4 mm.

Second, there is a piece of special tape on its top that looks like a temporary professional repair of a tiny ding or separation at that edge, that was never pursued to conclusion.

Third, both gold tone strap anchors have light oxidization on them, and so do a few of the strings. The decorative convex edge on the very top of the head has picked up some abrasion over the years, but looks great anyway.

Turning it over, both the head and neck look fine, with minimal scratches and small dings on the neck. The same goes for the plastic body, but below the cutaway is a curious curved portion about 7” long, that seems like a professional repair of a former wound to the body. It blends in visually, feels similar to the original mottling, and only sticks up a smidge above the surrounding area, but it may be a repair.

Now for the good stuff. Its sound is deep, smooth, and satisfying, and that speaks far louder than a list of piddly flaws, in my view. I just showed it to a player who opined that it sounds richer than the Martins he had tried.
