This rare Schwarzer bowl back mandolin was made in Washington, Missouri at the turn of the 19th/20th centuries in the factory of Franz Schwarzer, known as "The Zither King."

This meticulously crafted instrument produces the most amazing sound, with beautiful harmonic balance, more than ample volume, and an incredibly long decay.

As expected in an instrument of this age, there are various minor non-structural cracks that in no way affect the sound or playability of the instrument (see images).

My luthier recently dressed the ends of the frets, which are now smooth and flush.

Please see images for closeups of details and flaws. Feel free to ask questions. Sale is final, no trial period or returns.
