Ludwig Black Beauty LM452 1977-1982 Engraved Nickel-Plated Brass

Original factory production B/O pointy badge 1982 factory engraved Ludwig No. 452 Black Beauty Super Sensitive snare drum.

All original except for heads. 1977 Chicago 1.5mm brass shell with the old bearing edge profile. Pointy B/O badge. Chicago flower pattern. This was done by Ludwig in 1981 for 1982 production year, and not later after production by John Aldridge or other engravers.

These old-era Black Beauties are different than their modern counterparts. Thicker shells, a slightly different bearing edge and a different brass alloy all led to a badass sound in the studio and live under mics. You cannot find another modern recreation of these old school ones. Some come close and many drums sound great. But drums like this you’ll want to be buried with.

Some light rust present on the original hoops, rods, and strainer mechanism. Patina of brass present where engraving reveals it underneath. See photos as they are part of the description.
