Really great playing, great sounding and great looking vintage 1966 Fender Mustang. Ive played a lot of vintage fender guitars and this is one of my favorites. Really nails the surf rock dick dale tones. The neck feels incredible. Not letting it go for any less than my asking price. Just seriously sounds and plays too good. Has a smaller neck width than the more common mustang. The nut width measures at 1 1/2 inches. This is the smaller “A” neck and pretty rare and desireable. I have some other vintage fenders so I thought I would sell this one being that it has the smaller neck profile and is probably someone’s unicorn guitar. I read this is a 1965-1967 and likely a 1966 according to the serial number.
Original guitar(not a parts guitar). This guitar is a solid Vintage player. I was told everything is original on the guitar including the OHSC. I think it was probably refinished on the body because other olympic white guitars look more aged and yellow but it is a little yellow. With that said, there is not a lot of play wear on this guitar and it looks like it spent most of its life in the case. I showed the guitar to a respected guitarist who knows a lot about vintage guitars and he said he thinks its a refin too because the neck looks to have more play wear and checking than the paint on the body he also noted that it looks to be the correct fender Olympic white color. The neck has some checking in the finish and some of the finish on the back of the neck is worn from playwear. It is a very comfortable great playing neck. Super smooth and a lot of fun to play. The pickups sound incredible. There is some yellowing in the paint on the body and also some small nicks and some discoloration in the paint (pictured) but overall the paint looks really good. Frets are good and have some play wear but it plays great with no buzzing. The neck feels like the legendary vintage fender necks, super comfortable, lots of mojo and has some of the finish worn off probably from skin oil from play wear or sitting in the case over time but feels super comfortable. The tone from this guitar is incredible and nails the classic vintage fender tone. The olympic white paint just looks too clean and new to be original but it could be. I added pictures with different backgrounds so can see the actual color. The pickguard and metal on the guitar look great and are original. The pickgaurd has a small crack by the top right screw which is typical and some yellowing in the plastic from age. The guitar sounds very clear and no static or electrical issues. Has some very light flame on the neck that is typical for mid 60s Fender necks
Pretty certain this is the A profile neck width because I have another 1966 mustang and the neck is noticeably smaller on this one. The nut measures to 1 1/2 inches which also points to the A neck profile. I havent opened it up because im not a luthier or guitar tech but its without a doubt noticeably smaller neck width than any other mustang I have ever played so Im pretty certain it is the A neck profile. Also the nut width measures to 1 1/2 inches that also indicates the smaller rare A neck profile.
Ive owned quite a few 1960s fenders and can tell the neck is smaller than normal on this mustang compared to other mustangs. Its really an incredible player. Pretty rare to find the smaller thinner neck width and I prefer the C neck but this neck is great and it plays and sounds famtastic.
Pickups sound really really great. The neck feels great also. Solid recording and gigging guitar. Stays in tune well and a great example of the 1960s Fender sound. Set up pretty nice. Solid guitar. Case has a lot of wear as pictured but still functional. The back of the tolex of the case is coming off. The middle latch is broken and the case is very worn but functional. The plastic on the pickups and tuner keys show yellowing from age. The metal has patina but not much for a mid sixties guitar. Pickguard is also in great shape but has yellowing along the edges from age and the small crack by one of the screws.
Wonderful sounding and fun playing instrument. Comes with original whammy bar. check out my feedback as I list all of my guitars with integrity and try my best to point out any issues and describe them in their actual condition so there is no disappointment or surprises. This is a wonderful Fender Mustang guitar from most likely 1966 and it plays incredible and sounds amazing. Happy Guitar Hunting!
