Vintaqe Regal Wendell Hall TV Concert Ukulele

This vintage Regal Wendell Hall TV Concert Ukulele likely dates back to the 1950s, and it shows, but it is in good, playable condition.

 According to Sandor Nagyszalanczy on the ukulelemagazine webpage:

“In 1951, at age 55, [Wendell] Hall came out of retirement to host a show on Chicago’s WBKB television station. Drawing from his extensive catalog of past songs, Hall sang and played with what was described as “a voice right out of the razzmatazz, ragtime worshiping days of the ’20s.” Hoping to capitalize on the popularity of that show, Regal created a pair of new ukuleles: the Wendell Hall “TV” and “Teeviola” models. Both of these concert-sized ukes had spruce tops, whitewood bodies stained dark red, and Brazilian rosewood fingerboards. The difference between models is the shape of their soundholes: The TV’s is a rounded triangle […].”

Interestingly, all over the Internet this ukulele is dated as having been produced in the 1930s, but were there even TVs in the 1930s?

As you can see in the photos, there’s an obvious crack on the front of the instrument, but it is double-cleated on the inside and stable. The tuners were probably upgraded decades ago from the original cheaper white plastic ones. There are the expected dings, scrapes, scratches, and boo-boos to be found on the original finish of an instrument as old as this one, but it plays fine.
