Rare 1940's Bogen Co. MBHF Velocity Ribbon Microphone, restored, works great

Offering a vintage 1940's David Bogen Co. Model MBHF Velocity Ribbon Microphone. The company's impressive namesake, a brilliant Jewish immigrant, was born in Russia in 1889, migrated to America to escape anti-Semitism, to form one of the largest company's of audio gear, partnering with giants like Shure, RCA, Bogen, and Western Electric.

The "Velotron" microphone offered here was a joint project with Bruno Labs (a New York Company)...a static velocity mic that consisted of a rather crude wafer-like card, layers of metal "ribbons" sandwiched between a thin plate of copper, and required voltage to operate. At best they sounded like an old carbon mic and this one no longer functioned, so we removed that dead element and custom installed a new studio quality ribbon motor (figure-8 polar pattern with 1.8-micron, 2" long aluminum ribbon with powerful neodymium magnets, plus 1:36 transformer.) Now now this thing sounds fantastic...rich velvety tones, strong output, and does NOT require phantom power. We redressed the mic's casing, added a replacement yoke (that was missing) and now this mic now looks as good as it sounds. (Voice sample provided upon request.)

The mic is hardwired to a short pigtail cable terminating with a male XLR plug, and threaded to a basic display desk stand, included. ** Always safe secure packaging and fast fair shipping. Also, save with combined shipping on multiple purchases. **
