Three signal paths in a single enclosure

Komet® Amplification is pleased to introduce its new, patented, proprietary speaker system for effects processing: AmbiKab®. This new innovation offers a unique solution to the age-old problem of applying time-based ambient effects to the sound of an amplifier without compromising the original sound in any way.

Most guitarists are familiar with the problem: when time-based effects such as reverb or delay are applied before distortion, the sounds become ‘washed out’ and unclear. These effects should only be applied after distortion – similar to mixing in a recording studio. With classic vintage amplifiers and many designs without master volume control (such as our Komet® amplifier series), distortion is part of the output stage's sound recipe – but effects loops don't usually work well with these amplifiers. This is where the AmbiKab® comes in.

Infinite possibilities

With the AmbiKab®, the amplifier can drive a set of guitar speakers directly (‘dry signal’) without adding any effects to the signal. Part of this dry signal is then split off by the AmbiKab®'s internal circuitry and sent to an effects unit. From there, a 100% effects signal (‘wet signal’) is fed back into the AmbiKab®, where a separate, internal stereo power amplifier sends the signal to a dedicated stereo set of speakers.

The ultimate wet/dry/wet solution

The AmbiKab® features a send level control that can accommodate a variety of effects, from floor pedals to studio-quality rack units. On the return side, a volume control for the internal stereo amplifier regulates the amount of effect signal added to the guitar sound.

The AmbiKab® can be used with mono effects (both stereo channels bridged) or in full stereo mode. The sonic results of this new speaker system are astounding! The amplifier responds to the player's inputs as if no effects were being used at all (since the amplifier never actually ‘sees’ the effects).

Studio-quality effects

In addition, the ratio between wet and dry signals always remains constant. When the guitarist turns down the volume to clean up the sound of the amplifier, or varies the dynamics of their picking, the effect signal changes in proportion to the output signal of the amplifier. Players who have used conventional amplifiers with built-in reverb are familiar with this problem. When you set the reverb level for the lead sound, the reverb disappears when you turn down the volume for the rhythm, and vice versa. The AmbiKab® solves this age-old problem.

With the AmbiKab®, you get a genuine studio-quality effects sound anywhere, without the hassle of a conventional wet/dry/wet rig that requires additional speaker cabinets, amplifiers, mixing consoles and cables. All you need is your favourite amplifier, your favourite effects and the AmbiKab.
