Up for grabs is this 75 year old AlNiCo Zenith 12" loudspeaker.

The cool thing about this one is- it's a real survivor. Who ever owned it kept it out of the damp, cold, and sunlight because she still has her original coil, cone, spider and lit wires!n All we did was change out that goofy little felt disc for an actual open weave textile dust cap that lets out just the right amount of mid.'s and high end directly out of the core/coil area, a new real CORK gasket set, and a fresh coat of ReZon-Ex, so the surround will last forever...

This unit's full numbers are 343042, and 49CZ604.

She was gone completely over at PMR in Ohio, and given a clean bill of health... Plus, a few enhancements.

The cone is original, and you can see the cone numbers in that one picture.

What was done was-

1.)The surround was coated with that black, shiny, slightly tacky black "ReZon-Ex" edge treatment to absorb those cone edge resonance issues and remove those "ghost notes", so it sounds MUCH cleaner instead of having resonances and stored energy dissipation issues that were audible. Now, it;'s quite lively, detailed, "fast", accurate , and with a bit of chime and a 3D presentation.

2.) The original felt disc was removed from the apex, and a new open weave/acoustically transparent cloth dust cap was installed, and it lets out just the right amount of meds and high end directly out of the coil/core area,

3.) I wasn't that fond of the original cardboard type front mounting gasket, so I installed a new strip natural REAL cork gasket, so you rear baffle mounting guys will have a nice seal..

The magnet is that AlNiCo 3 bolt "Coffee Can" type design and is quite powerful.

Also, it has dual terminals so you can use standard spade terminals,. or if you're old enough- the old "Tube" shaped connectors.

She's an 8 Ohm unit, and I'd keep it under 30 watts.. SPL is high at 96 , and a wide 65Hz- 6.75 kHz response makes it a great harp or slide guitar speaker as well. REALLY nice sounding with amplified acoustic guitar,.
