Here is a wonderful Jumbo, a Harmony Sovereign H1270 12 String in Excellent condition. It has had a fresh neck reset, has a fast action, plays easily and sounds fantastic. Made of quality tone woods from stem to stern, this 1970 guitar is very well set up and ready for its forever home.
Harmony made the H1270 from 1964 to 1971, featuring a Solid Spruce Top, Honduran Mahogany back, sides and neck (a one-piece back!), floating bridge and a trapeze tailpiece, which transfers a lot of the stress of the tension of the strings away from the top and to the tail block of the guitar. The fretboard and bridge are both made of Brazilian Rosewood. The bridge is also unusual in that it has two saddles. The rear saddle really only serves the function of establishing the string spacing, while the front saddle sets the intonation.
Coming into the shop, this guitar needed a good bit of work, including a full neck reset and the repair of a cracked neck heel. The tuners have been cleaned and lubricated, the frets leveled and crowned, and a new front saddle has been made of bleached bone. As mentioned above, the rear saddle is strictly for string spacing and, now that we have been able to raise the saddle for a better break angle, a number of the strings no longer pass through the rear saddle. As one would with a single saddle, we have notched the front saddle to properly space the strings.
The original pick guard was nowhere to be found when we got the guitar, and has apparently been missing for some time. Since the outline of the original pick guard is so faint and the top of the guitar so lovely, we have left this H1270 au natural. The tuners, bridge and tailpiece are original. A new heel cap has been made as that too, was missing.
The neck reset has resulted in a quick, comfortable action, measuring 3/32nds at the twelfth fret of the Low D and 5/64ths on the High D. As is common with twelve string guitars, the H1270 is tuned to a D standard (D-G-C-F-A-D).
