CMOS fuzz is a type of distortion effect that uses Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor (CMOS) integrated circuits. The rumor that MOSFETs in CMOS circuits "sound like" tubes led to the creation of several CMOS fuzz pedals in the 1970s. History of CMOS fuzz
