A Geyer-style 3/4 horn with terrific tone. No dents!! Lacquer is slightly worn on the outer edge, see photo. Plays beautifully and in tune. This horn has lead my daughter to pursue playing the French horn in high school and plans on continuing in college. She is moving up from a beginner horn to a professional one. We would love to see it go to a good home. This is perfect for a middle school student. It's cheaper to purchase than rent for 2 years. Asking $1500, OBO.
The W. Nirschl D-500 is a 3/4-wrap, full double Geyer-style French horn can easily be held and played by younger players. It features an 11" bell, medium throat, .470" bore., and a lacquer finish. It includes a hard-covered case and mouthpiece.
You may have a band director that is asking that the horn students begin on double French horns rather than single horns. If so, look closely at the Nirschl D-500 3/4 double French horn. A standard French horn’s large dimensions often pose problems in getting set in a good playing position. However, the Nirschl D-500 was designed to resolve these challenges. And it plays in F and B flat just like its larger cousin.
Many young French horn students have difficulty finding a proper playing posture. A standard-sized horn's comparatively large body can post problems in getting the mouthpiece to a student's lips at a correct angle while also allowing the right hand to be placed in the bell effectively. Sadly, I often see young horn players having to make the choice between either good mouthpiece placement or functional right hand positioning.
The Nirschl D-500 3/4 Geyer-style French horn was specifically designed to resolve these challenges. While pitched in the usual F/B Flat, the Nirschl D-500's linear distance between the mouthpiece and the end of the bell is smaller. The reduced dimension of the D-500 affords a horn player the opportunity to place the mouthpiece properly while still placing the right hand in the bell in an effective manner. The D-500's slightly smaller bell diameter also aids in getting the horn closer to the body.
The Nirschl D-500 3/4 horn is made by the Gemeinhardt Company, a firm known worldwide for fine musical instruments.
