If you're looking for ultimate, classic guitar tone that's loud and has tons of vibe, THIS is speaker to get. While the SRO/12 speaker needs no introduction, the one listed here is special!

This SRO/12 is the FIRST version from the 1960's. It has only 4 mounting holes instead of 8 (which were common in the more plentiful version of the 70's). This speaker has the huge alnico magnet!

While this 8 ohm, 12" guitar speaker is the predecessor to the EV12L and even has been expertly reconed by Austin Speaker Works with a 12L Waldom cone, it doesn't have the stiffer and more ice-picky tone of the EV12L or EVM12L. This speaker has a doped cloth accordion surround and a smooth cone.

We've had several of these across our benches and kept this (and one other) one because of how nice it sounds - it has become a higher power reference to compare other speakers by. We've decided to make some room for future creations, so we are happy to know this speaker might end up in the hands of a lucky player!

The tone on this speaker is unique: it has a focused, fat, warm, and mean yet smooth character. It's already quite loud, but when you feed it even more power, it just starts accumulating more sweetly compressed bark and growl. The best part of the tone is how it can get really loud without losing the guitar's place in the mix. It sits in a very nice place all the time.

The highs have a very rounded and pleasant character without being sharp, obnoxious, or ice-picky. The lower mids is where this speaker really shines, as it brings about a special fatness that gives the guitar part a commanding authority. This speaker has an ability to truly project without the guitar from being lost or covered up during busy moments in the music.

We've played a variety of amps ranging from 5w to 100w on this speaker - it is a true workhorse! While the EV12L takes more power, this speaker sounds louder in a smoother way which doesn't annoy. This SRO/12 has more organic, complex warbly goodness that the EV12L or EVM12L cannot do.

This particular SRO/12 has the least graininess or harshness out of all the SRO's we've auditioned. This one has an apparent effortlessness and sustain that the others we played didn't have.

This SRO/12 is meant to be REAR-mounted on a baffle with ONLY 4 screws/bolts! If your cabinet baffle has been prepared with 8 screws/bolts, you MUST remove 4 of them prior to attempting to mount this speaker! Additionally, this speaker is VERY heavy, and due to the smooth texture and shape of the alnico magnet assembly, can be awkward to grip while attempting to align the holes as the speaker faces downward. This makes it easier to accidentally drop/lower the cone onto mounting screws/bolts, causing punctures in the cone! If you are not strong enough to handle this task with finesse, please have an expert or technician do this for you! This speaker cone and surround has zero holes in it.
