Having done work for long-time Hamer bass player Jack Blades of Night Ranger, I'm always on the lookout for unique Hamer basses, and came across one that immediately showed potential to make a Johnny Thunders Style LP Junior, but in a bass.
I removed the bolt-on neck and created a Mortise and Tenon joint, glued it in place at 3 degrees, just as Johnny's Junior, and converted the bass into a set-neck..
Using a Dimarzio Model One Pickup clone that I had sitting from a Gene Simmons project, I tested it at a hot 11k and vacuum wax potted it, then routed the top for the pickup. I used the clone because it had a chrome cover.
Once assembled, this bass played and sounded insane. It was loud and thunderous but still had enough high end. I built it with the complete intention of playing bass for guitarist Ronnie Younkins, of KIX fame, in his band the Blues Vultures. It sounded and looked incredible, but my schedule did not allow me to take the job I wanted so badly.
I had made Thunders clones in the past and decided to apply the same style to this bass. It turned heads wherever I played it. For the longest time I did not want to sell it, but I've now purchased a race car and am turning inventory so my wife does not kill me.
- The scale is 30 inches, and 20 frets that are tall and in great shape.
- It has an Ibanez hard tail bridge that I used simply to match the neck width.
- It also has the unobtainable Blessed Mother decal just as Johnny Thunders had.
- There is a gap between the pickguard and fretboard as well as nicks and wear. I played this bass for a while.
- Neck widths are shown in the photos for your own references.
- I'll supply a hard case as well as free shipping.
- I'll take this bass back from ANYONE who does not want it within 7 days. I have no problem keeping it and playing it until sold.
