12" RCA ALNICO SPEAKERS PAIR #961628 VINTAGE HI-FI WIDE RANGE OR GUITAR

Up for grabs is this PERFECT pair of RCA 12" AlNiCo wide range/ guitar/ Musical Instrument speakers.....They were manufactured in 1963, the 39TH week, on second shift.

These are sought after by collectors, trying to obtain that magical vintage hi-fi tonality.

GREAT WITH TUBE AMPS, these have lower inductance voice coils..

I'll describe these the best I can...

The frames are the 6 spoke RCA type, and have the 4 terminal connectors on them.

The magnetic structures are AlNiCo VII, and have that brass or copper clip on the magnetic structure.. You don't see that very often in these older vintage speakers...

Next, that would be the front mounting gaskets, which are the repressed paper/cardboard quarter piece 4/8 hole mounting pattern.,,, They are like new

Next in- the surrounds and the cone assembly, which is a single piece all paper/ full paper body/fixed edge type molded cone....They are repressed , and have a straight/conical profile, without any body ribs.....The surrounds have been treated with that tacky, never 100% completely dry dampener, which dramatically cleans up the sound by absorbing cone edge resonances and killing those " Ghost notes" that can be reflected back into the cone. This way, when a note hits the cone, it gets radiated into the air, and STOPS.

A treated textile/ high compliance spider assembly is used in these, with a slightly cupped profile.

I'm guessing on the voice coil materials here, but it's around 1" in diameter. These are 8 ohms each, and I'd keep it under 30 watts each just to be safe.

These do have a somewhat large whizzer cone. They're around 4" in outer diameter, have the same edge treatment as the surrounds do ( on the outer edges of the whizzer), and have a 1 piece molded in dust cap, which all of that really brings out the midrange/top end..

These two are really nice examples of a 60s type wide range, are in beautiful shape, and sound TREMENDOUS, like these old RCA units did all of those years ago..

Both units were ran under diagnostics, without any rubbing, buzzing, holes, rips, tears, smoking, rot, or adhesive failures- these look like new and sound just as good.
