January 1964 Fender Jazz Bass. One of the best playing basses ever. This is a stunning vintage pre-cbs instrument. Sounds truly incredible. Very inspiring instrument. Some serious vintage tone and feel and the neck and playability is better than any bass I’ve ever played. This bass is a monster player. The only thing non-original is the neck pickup has been rewound. To clarify, the neck pickup itself is original to this bass but it appears to have been rewound. I bought this bass from a very reputable vintage guitar shop in Manhattan NY. I have owned many vintage instruments and believe this bass to be an original Sonic Blue factory fender finish, the screw holes are not painted and the neck pocket doesnt have the paint stick but is cohesive with the custom color finish and is not flooded -the paint is faded but brighter under the pickguard -everything points to an original sonic blue finish. One reknown vintage shop thought it could be a faded refin because the headstock is not the same color but on basses in this era not all custom colors had matching headstocks. When I bought it the shop said it could be the original finish but said they wanted to sell it as a very old refin because it didnt have the unpainted paint stick mark. I believe it is the original Sonic Blue finish that has faded to an off white almost mint green color. I tried to picture the actual hue of the color against different backgrounds. Its not quite white and has a slight tint to it and if you look closely the finish has a spider-web like crackle to it that is consistent with how the factory fender paint from early 1964 would have aged. This bass is a holy grail bass. I cant emphasize enough how great of a player this bass is. The neck on this bass feels incredible and lives up to the legendary pre-cbs reputation of unparalleled tone and playability. If you have played an authentic pre-cbs fender that just feels incredible then you know. This instrument has been verified from many luthiers who have seen it. Electronics and pots and pickups are all original. The neck pickup was said by Southside Vintage NY to have appeared to have been rewound but the pickup itself is original and it sounds to me exactly like an original vintage fender Jazz bass pickup. Neck, frets, body, everything is all original and authenticated. Incredible player. Comes with Original hardshell case that has comparable wear to the bass ie well played but well kept and appears to definitely be original to the instrument. One of the latches on the original vintage fender case is broken (pretty typical for an old fender case) and the case is worn but still functional beside the one broken latch. This is a well loved well played truly amazing vintage instrument and a great recording grade instrument. Very inspiring bass. This is seriously the best playing bass Ive ever come across. January 1964 Pre-cbs authentic vintage Jazz Bass. Really great looking and incredible playing instrument.
