This 1973 Fender Stratocaster has been properly worn in with some beautiful checking, by being a workhorse for the last 50+ years! Yes, checking happens with nitro and not with a poly finish, so I emailed Fender and this was what they said

“Thanks for reaching out! Due to the age of this instrument, we will not have any specs on file to confirm what kind of finish it is.

I reached out to our team to see if we might have any additional information this, and they said there were some reports of guitars from this time period being finished with a nitro/poly blend, or with a poly undercoat with a nitro top finish. That might be the case with this guitar.

It is possible that this guitar was refinished at some point, but I thought this information might be helpful!”

Everyone who has played this guitar agrees; the slim C shaped neck feels absolutely amazing. That includes me as someone who prefers baseball bat necks. The frets may or may not be origina,l and may need to be redone based upon your preference, as the edges have have been tapered in a bit much, taking away some real estate to both E strings. The pickups are DiMarzio Fat Strats from the 70’s (see the sales receipt from the UK, and confirmed by DiMarzio) but there are some Fender pu’s from this era that may have been rewound which are included.  Someone hacked the body to be able to do a humbucker in the middle position. We thought about doing a modern open route so you could do whatever pickup selection, but decided to keep this part of the guitar’s history. The pickguard, 5 way switch (new), pots (new), capacitor (new) and tuning gears (though they are Fender upgrades from the era) are replacements.

Weight: 7 lbs 4.4oz without the ashtray, 7 lbs 5.03 oz with the ashtray

Includes vintage, red faux fur case and what could be the original pickups

This glorious vintage instrument will only appreciate in value and in your soul over the years. Don’t miss out on this piece of American history!

Plenty of of other photos are available, but Reverb only allowed me to upload 25 😒
