Up for Sale is a top notch Harmony Sovereign H1203 “Western Special.” It is the younger brother of the flagship H1260 Sovereign. The guitar has undergone a conversion to X-bracing courtesy of Moonlight Luthiers and recently setup by the Guitar Shop of Wisconsin. The stamp in the soundhole indicates that the guitar was made in the fall of 1963. For a 60 year old instrument, she shows her wear. The most noticeable housekeeping items are glue residue from a neck reset and a couple of cracks on the back of the body. The three luthiers I have been to have confirmed that the cracks are not through the body and could be cleated-I leave that decision to the buyer. From the pictures and guitar techs they are purely cosmetic and don’t affect the sound or playability. I hate to part with it for sentimental reasons, but it is a fantastic guitar. The X-bracing practically makes it a new instrument that rivals a 000-style, but with the added benefit of quality materials unavailable today (Adirondack Spruce, one-piece Honduran Mahogany, Brazilian Rosewood fretboard, oh my…) and TLC the Harmony Company skimped out on back in the day. It will come in a newer Superior Hardshell case. No returns and local pickup in the Madison/Milwaukee area, but please feel free to ask any questions or make any offers. Thanks for looking!
