This simple one-knob overdrive is voiced around the feel and response of a small Fender Champ pushed hard, with the kind of touch-sensitive breakup and compression that makes a cranked low-wattage amp so much fun to play. The Black Champ is especially associated with a vintage blackface-style Champ character: warm, compact, responsive, and able to move from cleaner edge-of-breakup sounds into a more saturated small-amp grind simply by working the Level control and your guitar’s volume knob.

The Lovepedal Champ is built around a very simple idea: capture the feel of a small Fender Champ being pushed hard without requiring an actual small tube amp to be turned all the way up.
The pedal uses a single Level control, keeping the interaction intentionally simple. Rather than relying on multiple gain and tone controls, the Champ responds strongly to picking dynamics and the guitar’s own volume control.
At lower settings, it can add a touch of warmth and edge-of-breakup character.
Push the Level higher and the pedal moves into the compressed, harmonically rich overdrive associated with a small tube amp being driven hard.
That simplicity is part of the appeal. There is no complicated gain staging or EQ section to work around. The pedal is designed to feel immediate and responsive, making it easy to use as an always-on low-gain drive, a compact amp-like overdrive, or a way to push an already-working amplifier a little harder.
Lovepedal designed the Champ around the feel of a cranked Champ-style amplifier, and the Black version has become particularly associated with the tighter, warmer character of a vintage blackface-era Champ.
The pedal is true bypass and can operate from a standard center-negative 9V DC supply, with Lovepedal also specifying operation at higher voltages up to 22V DC.
