Built in late:1950's for Vilayat Khan, by the SITAR Master makers HUSEN & Brothers, Miraj, India. (1949-50's) First paperwork in photo area is a confirmation letter from Grandson, confirming made for Vilayat Khan! 2nd paperwork shows list of Sitar Makers in Miraj, India HUSEN & Brothers being one of earliest makers of note! It is a rare, unique, one of a kind 52 inches in length, larger soundboard area as well as deeper than any regular Sitar. It is called by my restoration, restringing human (Carl Rowley owner of the SITAR Registry website/blog.) As a Custom-made Professional Grand Concert "Baritone Sitar" 7 Main Strings, Ebony pegs, with 15 Sympathetic strings that drone underneath. Gorgeous looking and sounds incredible. Hand crafted out of Teak Wood and Ivory, early high quality production, pre-plastic/Ivoroid, etc...Received confirmation from Great Grandson, after sending photos that it was made & used by Vilayat Khan, Ravi Shankar, other famous SITAR Players and on Recordings.Pre-9-1971 when I acquired it! Recently a single gord lessor looking, lower provenance, sold for 35-40K on Christies+ Premium costs!
