Vintage 1978 Washburn Hawk Electric Guitar w/ Original Case! Wing Series, Rare Finish!

Up for sale is this vintage 1978 Washburn Hawk electric guitar. This is a very cool instrument that, unfortunately, has some issues so please read the entire description and see all of the photos. This one is being offered "AS IS".

This guitar features a very rare solid red finish, which is really something if you're familiar with these instruments. You don't often see them dressed in red and a friend of ours that is an expert in these instruments tells us that only a handful are known to be out there. The original finish shows fairly heavy wear, especially on the back and around the edges. The tuners, neck pickup, nut, and bridge are original. The bridge pickup, while era correct, has aged differently than the neck pickup so we assume it is not original to the instrument. Both pickups work but, unfortunately, some moron "updated" it with a PC board set up and the electronics are in and out and, honestly, the whole cavity should be gutted and started over. The currently pots aren't seated well and are loose, leading to bad connections and everything cutting in and out badly. When the moron updated it, one of the PC board mounting screws came through the front of the body, leading to some damage on the top (pictured). Because of this, we have listed this instrument as "non-functioning".

The instrument was just cleaned up by our tech who polished the frets, installed a fresh set of strings, and adjusted the intonation. He noted that the neck is straight and the truss rod functions, but the saddles are all the way down with no current way to go lower. The guitar is set up with comfortable action though, but it will probably need attention in the future. The original frets do show wear and divoting, but still have a lot of life left in them.

The original hardshell case is included, but the handle is missing. It is in otherwise good condition and all of the latches ans hinges are present. The instrument will be well-packed inside to ensure safe shipping.

This one isn't perfect and certainly will need some love, but it's priced right and is still a cool example of a Wing Series Washburn.
