“A Historic/Vintage/Rare Collectors Dream”
Here is a rare opportunity to own “one of the most beautiful excellent condition / completely original examples of this model I have ever seen” I quote George Gruhn. The only thing missing from this guitar is it’s original pickguard as it is a common situation they just disintegrate/off gas over time into dust as this one did. I have a picture of the bag with remanence of what’s left of the pickguard material I can send after its purchased (if you care to see as it’s pretty wild). NOTE: The original screws and pickguard holder/mounting parts is included if you so choose to have one made for it. In my opinion the guitar looks much better without pickguard though. More on my conversation with George Gruhn on this guitar after finding everything out on it, I decided to try and find a better condition original version like mine out there and I was unable to and even looking at old sold listings. I truly believe his opinion on it being one of the most beautiful / excellent condition original example he has ever seen as that guy has seen many thousands of guitars and knows his stuff. He literally wrote books on vintage guitars.
Personal history and current state of this guitar:
This came from a family member/lovely lady who she was the original owner and only played it for maybe 4-8 years range when she was in high school and bit after that we estimate based off info told within the family. It since then has been in its case in her closet in her house up until 11-13 years ago. It has been professionally setup/serviced/maintained/detail cleaned with tuners oiled, fingerboard conditioned, frets polished, truss rod adjusted to get perfect neck relief, bridge placed in perfect spot for best intonation, and has new elixir 10-46 gauge strings tuned to concert pitch. It is completely original with only the pickguard material missing (as it literally turned into dust/small pieces over time as that material does) but still with original parts for it included. There is no wood cracks or binding breaks/splits. It has general wear type condition marks showing from use and finish checking as expected from this age of an instrument but still considered to be excellent condition. Some of the tuners were rusty/fuzzy when it was first discovered and a few have left over finish wear but they were all professionally cleaned / restored as well of course and they are in the best state they can ever be now. I have had the honour and privilege to play/hear/witness hundreds of guitars and amps in my life and this is easily the best acoustic I have ever heard. The most addicting/interesting/healing type tone and overall special feeling I have ever gotten from an acoustic instrument. This was a very tough decision to come upon to let it go for sale to the world, as I once thought I would keep it forever but life changes and it’s just time it brings the most deepest healing/enjoyment to a new deserving home. The value of this guitar will always increase and especially once it hits 100 years old in 2035. Nice bonus in a financial regard as well.
What’s included?
The original case, original pickguard screws and mounting part, a special 1930s add on nut for slide use, a very ornate fancy custom 1930s guitar strap, various 1930s era guitar picks, some original strings both nos pack and old used ones and packaging just for cool collecting/keep sake as I don’t recommend using any those old strings of course.
Both Researched History & George Gruhn‘s shared info/specs:
The L-75 initially came out in 1932 as a small (L-00 sized) archtop with F holes and failed at catching commercial success, since it was small and lacked the volume of an archtop players needed. Yet, it was still a lot of money in those depression years. In 1935, the model was redesigned to a big roundhole archtop, like this one is. Now let’s get into what makes this guitar the more highly sought after L-75. First, the back and sides wood is solid mahogany with all very nice grain texture where an L-4 has maple. It’s an important feature, since the L-75 was the only Gibson bigger sized archtop with this tone wood. Of course it does make the tone different and unique (better many say because of the midrange content). Has super nice grain solid spruce top. One most known typical loved feature of this particular version of the L-75 is the full sunburst. Yes, it’s one of the very few Gibson models to have the sunburst applied to both the back and the sides and the front of the guitar and also is why its a highly desirable/collectible model. This gives it a very distinctive beautiful appearance, and a unique charm. The inlaid rosette is made of multiple black and white wood strips, as seen on the later Southern Jumbo model for example. One more thing that makes this particular guitar unusual/rare is its headstock inlays. Nice original solid bone nut. Nice unique big V type neck and dead straight with no warp or dip or hump. The tuning machines are Grover G100. They were very high quality at the time (better than the more common Waverly tuners), and still function 89 years later. The bridge is the highly sought after *original old golden age era Brazilian Rosewood solid one piece carved with solid one piece carved base.*
*NOTE* Pictures have glare/reflections on the guitar and it may appear to have things on it that are truly not there. Please keep this in mind.
This guitar will be packed extremely well and pics will be taken during the packing process once purchased.
