Sustain and overdrive go together like peanut butter and jelly. That's why Pigtronix built a variable "Grit" control into their Philosopher's Twin Germanium. Granted, it's not your high-gain, screaming-lead-style overdrive, but it gives you enough texture to add that extra bit of "umph" to your amp. On the compression side, the Philosopher's Twin Germanium gives you near-infinite sustain. We're talking about notes that can literally ring on for over a minute. And here's the coolest part - it's totally noise free. In fact, at a demo here at Sweetwater, we got the hear this sustain in action when David Koltai (one of the founders of Pigtronix) added a ridiculous amount of sustain to a Tele. Not only did the guitar (a traditional model loaded with single coil pickups) not feedback, its tone remained absolutely pristine.
