This is a brand new design that combines the transport and variable speed functions in one single unit. It features handmade solid ovangkol side panels and connects to your tape deck via a standard RJ45/Cat5 cable.

Included in the listing:

• RC-7799 mk2 Remote Control for Revox B77 or PR99 tape recorders
• B77 adapter that connects to the Capstan Speed and Remote connectors on your deck, and combines both inputs into a single RJ45 connector
• 3 meter long Cat5 cable with RJ45 connectors.

Unless otherwise specified, the transport buttons will have markings in the style of the old Studer recorders (with orange record button). On demand, we can also send you a remote with more conventional markings (with red record button). You can compare both styles on the last picture.

Varispeed section

The varispeed section is functionally identical to the original Revox unit, featuring a FINE setting with a range of -/+2 semitones, and a COARSE setting with a wide -/+7 semitones range. A large 40mm collet knob with very smooth action allows you to set the precisely the exact speed you require.

The B77mkII already has an internal varispeed but it has only the finer -/+2 semitones range. Do note that the much larger knob on our remote allows for more precision on the FINE setting compared to the internal varispeed.

Transport section

The RC-7799 mk2 provides switches for the basic transport functions: Record, Stop, Play, Fast Forward, Rewind and Pause. As with the B77 tape recorder itself, recording begins when you press Play and Record together.

The Pause function is controlled by a three position toggle switch: Latching (which stays in position) / Pause off / Momentary (which is maintained only as long as you keep the button pressed down).

RJ45/Cat5 cable

The RC-7799 mk2 uses a standard 'Ethernet' cable to connect to the B77. While the cable and connectors are the same, please do not try to plug the remote control, or the supplied B77 adapter to your router, your computer or any other equipment, ethernet or otherwise. It will not work and can damage something in the process.

You can use any Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6e or Cat7 cable terminated with RJ45 connectors, as long as they are not "crossover" cables: You need a standard "straight through" cable, such as those used to connect a computer to a router.

Compatibility

The RC-7799 mk2 remote control works with both B77 (mkI and mkII) and PR99 (mkI, mkII, mkIII) tape decks. However, since the layout of the Remote and Capstan Speed connectors is different between B77s and PR99s, you need a different adapter for each model. This listing is sold with the B77 adapter, but if you have both decks and would also like to use the remote with a PR99, we have a separate listing where we sell only the PR99 adapter.

It has been brought to our attention that a certain shop in Germany modified some B77s and fitted then with a different connector panel (all in black). Unfortunately the location of the transport remote connector and variable speed remote connected is different than on the original silver panel. As such, our adapter does not fit and you won't be able to plug it in.
